We believe that supporting the professional development of students is a starting point for fostering career-long learning, practice proficiency and leadership.  NOFSW offers the following student scholarships as pathways for students to engage more meaningfully in the profession and with forensic social workers globally.

 

Albert R. Roberts Student Presenter Scholarship

 

Dr. Albert R. Roberts was a professor, author and ardent proponent of social work’s role in forwarding justice.  Best known for his work in family violence, he was the recipient of many awards and over his 35 year career, touched the lives of hundreds of students who would become forensic social workers, scholars and leaders.

 

Scholarship Amount: the full cost of registration, lodging and travel associated with attending the NOFSW annual conference. 

 

1. ELIGIBILITY

• Student must be enrolled in an accredited social work program at either the undergraduate or graduate level.

• Student must be in good standing at their educational institution.

• Student’s presentation (workshop, roundtable or poster) must have been accepted for the annual conference to which the student plans to attend.

 

1. CRITERIA

   • Student will submit an application letter no more than two (2) pages describing their interest in forensic social work and future aspirations in the field.

   • Student will submit a letter of support for their application from a current or recent instructor from the institution at which the student is currently enrolled.

   • Priority will be given to students who state a financial need.

1. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

   • Application letters are to be submitted at the same time as their conference presentation proposal

     • For 2024, the deadline is February 15, 2024

   • The student does not have to be the primary or sole presenter; can serve as co-presenter with an instructor or practicing professional.

   • Finalists may be contacted by an NOFSW Board member or representative for further information as part of conducting the fairest possible selection.

   • Those selected may be featured at the conference or in conference materials (e.g. website)

   • Awardees who do not attend the conference are responsible for reimbursing the organization or, with a documented excuse, may be eligible for the award to be applied to a future conference.
